Principal's Monthly Message
October 2019 Message
Dear Gecko Families,
We have settled into our school year and our classrooms are filled with the joy of learning. Our Geckos are on the path of success as they are beginning to learn new concepts and discover the essential standards for their grade level through building a strong school and classroom community.
Our staff reviewed data and reflected upon our School Improvement Plan for the 2019-2020 school year and we wanted to share our learning goals with all of you so that you can support us on this journey of learning. Our goals are as followed:
Strand 1: Teaching for Learning
Greer will be fully accredited by June, 2020. All students at Greer will score at least 75% in Reading and 70% in Math on the spring 2020 SOL assessments.
Ask your child what they are learning about in reading and math.
Strand 2: School Environment
Greer staff will become culturally responsive teachers.
Ask your child about how they are building a strong classroom community through the “Morning Meeting” and have them demonstrate one greeting they have learned so far this year.
This school year we will practice many school wide drills to keep our students safe in case of an emergency. The following drills will be practiced throughout the school year (lockdown, fire, tornado, and earthquake). Our teachers prepare for the drill beforehand with their students so that they understand each drill and are not fearful during the drills.
Attendance and arriving at school are critical for your child’s/children’s success. We do not want you to send your child/children to school if they are sick, but please know that your child’s/children’s social, emotional, and academic success is impacted when they are absent, arrive late, or are picked up early. If your child is sick, please also remember to call the office to let us know.
Thank you for your continued support as we make this the best school year ever and watch our Geckos shine!
Sincerely,
Your Greer Administrators
Steve Saunders, Wendy Eckerle & Brad Handrich
